PLAYTHING AND WITHIN HER

NANCY SMITH FITCH DANCE THEATRE FSU DANCE DEPARTMENT / FL/US

PLAYTHING

CHOREOGRAPHER: Khamille Williams

“This piece explores themes of femininity and relationships through the lens of a doll-like figure. It follows her journey as she navigates the desire to be picture-perfect. Throughout the narrative, she initially expresses herself in a reserved manner, but as the story progresses, she begins to find her own voice, which may be imperfect or broken at times. Ultimately, her work reflects a transformation from restraint to freedom in her self-expression. femininity, relationships, a doll-like figure, and her journey throughout the piece, centered on structure and a desire to be picture-perfect. Throughout the piece, finding her own voice might be broken in some ways; translation through her work starts very reserved and becomes freer.”

WITHIN HER

CHOREOGRAPHER: Alex DiCastro

“I was inspired by the concept of femininity and power as it’s relevant to many things happening in the world right now. And it’s something that I would use to describe myself as a mover and artist. I work a lot with powerful strong athletic movements and also more feminine and softness so I decided to make a work about the power “Within Her”.”
